Chelsea Benay Asheville Interior Designer

hello

I'M CHELSEA BENAY.

I started Chelsea Benay, LLC in 2015, fulfilling a lifelong dream of having my own interior design business. My journey to starting Chelsea Benay Interior Design included studying interior design and finance (a unique combo, I know!), five years working for other inspiring and talented designers in Asheville and Southwest Florida, and NCIDQ licensure.

Growing up with parents in real estate development meant I was often surrounded by design and construction professionals, and felt a pull toward interior design from a young age. I can remember tearing out pages from design magazines as a child, and helping my Mom select interior finishes and furnishings as a teenager.

Learning and growing in this field has been a fun and rewarding process. I truly love what I do and I think that is reflected in my work. I’ve been so lucky to collaborate with talented Asheville design-build professionals and clients who inspire me to do my best everyday.

guiding principles

NO. 1 • AUTHENTICITY

My goal is to let my clients’ unique and authentic personalities come through in the projects I design. I strive for authenticity myself, in my designs and through interactions with clients and other professionals.

NO. 2 • OPENNESS

I push myself to stay very open to the opinions of others and not be too rigid in my thinking. My hope is that my clients and the professionals we work with also stay open-minded throughout the creative process.

NO. 3 • COLLABORATION

Whether I’m working with clients, builders, architects, other designers, or craftspeople, collaboration is a key component of good design. Brainstorming together and building off one another’s ideas often creates the best results.

NO. 4 • BALANCE

In design and in life, the importance of balance cannot be overstated. Balancing colors, textures, and shapes is something I’m always staying attuned to and looking out for in my work.

NO. 5 • CONSCIOUS CONSUMERISM

I believe we all have a responsibility to be aware of our consumption habits and try to minimize waste. When working on projects, I try to think about the long-term implications of a design, and strive to make selections that will stand the test of time.

FAVORITE DESIGN STYLE

2.png

I wouldn’t say I’m super aligned with any one style in particular, but Scandinavian Modern, Mountain Modern, and European Farmhouse are some of my favorite styles to work with.

PERSONAL AESTHETIC

My personal aesthetic is earthy, modern, and elegant. I love Scandinavian modern architecture and casual, warm interiors that are designed in a simple aesthetic with lots of natural texture, modern elegance, and global eclectic charm.

MY HAPPY PLACE

Hiking in the mountains, cooking, yoga, paddle boarding, bike rides, exploring the ever-evolving Asheville food and beverage scene, live music, and enjoying low-key dinners with friends and family.
